A Secret

I have real trouble over this prompt. There are some corners in our lives we like to sweep aside.

How to write about a secret? The clock continues its relentless rhythm as I ponder this. I could have shared secrets from my past, but I wanted to share a secret from this year. It is making me think: Do secrets all have to be shameful or painful? Is that why we bury them deep in the crevasses of our soul?

So here’s my secret: I play around with food, specifically Indian crepes or pancakes. I create little balls out of the soft dough of the crepes or pancakes, using the tips of my fingers. By the time I am done, you will find around 5 or 6 of these on my plate. The act of rolling them around relaxes me and I think they look cute in the end. This is not a 2016 habit, but it’s something that I carry into this year as well. My adopted sister used to liken it to lizard eggs. My Mom admonishes me saying I shouldn’t play with my food. But…it’s a habit I simply haven’t been able to let go off.

Phew. Difficult prompt over.

  1. I never thought of getting some play dough. What an idea! Wow! Let me try that. You are right, I think the idea of doing the same thing again and again is wonderfully relaxing. Especially because my mind is forever like a cat on a hot tin roof.

  2. Kind of sounds like the feeling you might get from playing with a zen garden. Just doing the same repetitive thing over and over again. Sounds relaxing… Maybe you need more “play dough time” in your life? lol. Or you could try the zen garden? I bet that would work too. (Just differently.)
